Unshakeable Embracing Faith in God Amid Adversity

Life is a journey, and navigating it either makes or breaks us. Some of us are strong, resilient and brave. Some of us fold up because life is not easy. The daily pressures, stress, and challenges we sometimes face are harsh and seem unfair and unbearable. Those who handle it do not understand but decide there are two choices: either give up or ride out the wave, remembering that everything we face is only for a season, and trouble does not last forever but for a moment. Here in this book, I take you through my journey of lust, love, deception, wickedness, sickness, pain and faith all rolled into one. I have faced many serious challenges, and at times, over several years, it has been a constant battle for me. I still believe that trials and tribulations come to teach, strengthen and navigate us to the path of our destiny, which, if we had to do it, we would not. I have felt sorry for myself and have faced death’s door on numerous occasions, but I survived — trials and tribulations.

As I lay in bed one day, a thought popped into my head that I must write this book because God has been so good to me amidst all that I experienced; he never left my side or forsook me. This book centres on many life- changing experiences and lessons. Now that I think of it, back then, I would say why me and not my siblings or someone else as I journeyed throughout my life. If it were not for my creator, the great God Almighty’s protection and preserving my life, Satan would have probably been rejoicing over my death. But our lessons come for a reason, and God allows us to re calibrate; some have an opportunity, and some do not. I am grateful. I’ve had several to reflect on and start afresh, which shows how merciful, forgiving and great our God is even when we do not deserve such unmerited favor.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Darren D’Angelo Antonio, Sr., is the sixth of seven children born to Cleomi Hilda Antonio. He was born, raised, and received his education in Nassau, Bahamas. Darren is married to Colette Antonio, who has been married for twenty-three years and are blessed with an adult daughter and a teen son. Darren is an avid reader; his favourite book is the Bible, which he reads daily. He is passionate about his faith and love for God. He believes that if we do not have that solid foundation in Christ, living will be in vain as we travel through life’s journey. He attributes where he is today to God’s unmerited favour. Among reading, his hobbies are watching professional sports, writing, and going on family outings.

He has climbed the ladder in his current employment to where he is today as a charge engineer and senior manager at Bahamas Power and Light Company Limited, employed for over thirty-four and a half years. He attributes this to God and God alone, as he believes promotion comes from God. He has devoted time to continuous leadership training, taking professional development courses, and obtaining certificates from City and Guilds, London, in technical, supervisory, and managerial skills courses and training in his field of work, which have prepared him for his current role. Fostering team leadership, building a positive attitude and rapport, and collaborating effectively with his staff to build trust allow better working communication. 

Darren believes leadership should encompass integrity, empathy, sympathy, honesty, fairness and respect. He’s been taught and continues to exude a managerial style of helping team members grow to contribute to the corporation while working with complex personalities to get the best results. As husband and father, God is the centre of it all. He attends church weekly with his family and believes family is everything, spending time with his family and the source of his life, God, who makes the impossible possible. As one who loves God, he believes nothing in this life is worthwhile or worth working so hard for unless you have a personal relationship with God, who gives life, health, strength, and longevity. He uses every opportunity to spread the word of God and let those he encounters know the importance of having and building a relationship with Almighty God.

The experiences in this book has led me to a humbling point of consciousness that God is real and that when we are going through life’s critical moments, whether death or life, God is always with us. When we take our hands off the situation and let God, we take our eyes off our problems and let God. We see miracles and the hand of God moving in our lives. We must be strategic and align our thoughts with his thoughts and intent for our lives. We must accept his son Jesus Christ’s free gift of salvation as our saviour and allow him to direct our lives. The Holy Spirit God gave to us for a purpose. We have to remember that everything will be alright once we trust in him and allow him to work through us.

In this book, you will read some harsh realities that I went through and how the Lord God Almighty shaped me and molded me into the being that he has ordained me to be and for me to be a witness that he is real through reading His word and building your faith in Him every day, you can overcome any challenge. He will never leave you nor forsake you, and in my view, if I have saved a soul by writing this book, I feel that I have made a small victory for my saviour. 

In this life, Satan rules by deception, even though God is in charge. He (Satan) is out there in the world, deceiving some of the people who profess to be Christians through religion. Satan has man distracted with every device possible, and the world is confused. My God created us, and we must seek him daily to repent from our sins and live solely for the purpose he ordained. We have to be obedient. We have to worship God, be grateful, love Him and thank Him for every new day that He allows us to live because He loves us unconditionally. He has extended His free gift of grace and mercy and wants us to return to Him, seek Him, and find Him.

My trials started when I was a mere teen, and Asthma was then my portion, being a black sheep and not understanding why and what was happening to me and not having a father figure or a male that I could emulate or teach me right from wrong. It plagued and tried to disrupt my life in every area where I should have been enjoying and doing things that kids, teens and adults would do. As a youngster growing up, I spent my time talking to God, reading and getting to know Him because I had questions and did not have anyone to answer them. God is who I sought, and He found me. Sometimes, when I was not strong, I thought about giving up, but I also thought about life and how I wanted to live no matter how I felt and what I was facing. I choose life over my circumstances. My challenges also allowed me to be grateful because God had me here for a purpose that, at the time, was unknown, but I was willing, with his grace, to stick around and find out.

In this book, you will see that I allowed Satan not only to tempt me, but also cause me to go, off course, and get involved in a relationship, taking on a sexual spirit that only God was able to free me from. It was the clutches of a woman that was black in heart and soul, and for my lack of vision and behaviour, it also caused me to hurt instead of love, use and be unfaithful, and have multiple relationships at the same time, allowing the pleasures of the flesh, deception, and greed to cloud my brain and detour me from making sensible decisions following the desires of the world when I should have known better. 

When we put God aside, He never leaves us, but He allows us to do what we want, using the free will He gave us. But we soon realize what a mess of our lives we have made and then turn back to Him. He accepts us with open arms while others stay in sin and darkness, the pleasures of this world, because they are so steep in it and refuse to trust God over their carnal nature. But when we seek God with sincerity of heart and truly repent, He allows us to see the action of our ways and transforms us from that old self into a new one. God is King of Kings, Lord of Lords from ancient days and everlasting to everlasting.
